SER140 is a peptide with anti-inflammatory properties

SER140 is an IL-1β Receptor antagonist, an anti-inflammatory peptide compound with a novel mode of action for the treatment of Diabetic Kidney Disease. SER140 inhibit the diabetes induced inflammatory processes. The inflammatory activities in the kidney such as glomeruli and tubular cells is expected to be decreased. SER140 is consequently expected to reduce the progression of renal impairment in patients with diabetes.

Treatment with ACE-inhibitor antihypertensives is the golden standard of treatment of diabetic nephropathy but that treatment does not inhibit the fundamental causes of renal damage nor does it cure the disease. Since the inflammation is a progressive process causing loss of the renal function, SER140 could potentially become a very significant combination (add-on) therapy as standard daily treatment in patients with diabetic nephropathy. It is expected that SER140 treatment delays progression or even prevents development of the disease. SER140 has a blockbuster market potential.
